And you where you thought you'd be?

15Nov2013

I for one am not. If anyone would have told me even ten years ago that today I’d be a stay at home mom to three boys, I would have thought they were crazy. Don’t get me wrong ten years ago I knew I wanted to be a mom but I never would have guessed I would have three wonderful little boys.

Besides being a mom if I look at where I am in my life. Professionally, financially, and why not physically. I am not where I thought I would be.

Do you ever compare yourself to other people your age? I do and to be honest sometimes I feel like I don’t measure up. Do you ever look at your life and feel like you should be “further along” by now? I sometimes do.

Why do you think we compare? Is it because we’re human and is in our nature to do so? I’m pretty sure everyone does it. For example we compare new people we meet to people we already know, like, dislike, trust, and don’t trust. We compare stores where we shop and prices. Who doesn’t compare prices now a day?

I think it’s natural and necessary in certain situations. However I don’t think we should do it when it comes to our life and who we are. If we live comparing our life, careers, relationships and self to someone else we are going to miss appreciating what we do have. Let’s be honest, that would just make ourselves miserable.

We have to realize that we are a unique blend of skills, personality, and talent. Take for example our laugh. It’s not better or worse than anyone else. It is our own unique laugh.

We have not failed, or done things the wrong way. We simply have done things or way and on our own terms. There is no right or wrong. We are at liberty to live our life however we choose. And we should be taking advantage of that.

Engaging in or life, as it is now, knowing that we are perfect and exactly where we need to be, is essential to our happiness. When people and opportunities show up, we’ll be able to see them for what they are, without getting distracted by how they measure up to our past experiences, current relationships, fears, opinions or preferences. We’ll be able to do this because we’re in this moment, seeing what is right in front of us, completely detached from any negativity.

So let’s be happy and proud of our unique selves. And enjoy all the wonderful moments that we come across on this journey we call life.
